The concept of Press Council Nepal was first envisioned in 2024 BS in the name of Press Advisory Board. It was
duly established in 2027 BS as Press
Council Nepal. The main aim of this council was to prepare necessary
infrastructure for the development of press sector, to establish good
relationship between journalist and the press sector and to develop healthy and
prestigious journalism in the nation.
Functions, responsibility and rights of Press Council were determined
by the amendment of Press and Publication Act promulgated in 2019 BS. The first report of Press
Council Nepal has a demand of providing it legal approval as an autonomous
organization featuring indiscreet successor.
